About
Woven Textiles and Contemporary Fine Art

Welcome to Fox On They Sley! David Fox creates woven textiles which either are commercial for interiors or accessories, whilst weaving architectural 3D woven textiles that plays around with light and space. In Fox's design process how the user interacts with the woven pieces is integral. This is achieved by material and yarn choices whether that is for comfort, to make a statement or to interact with light and the room. Materiality is at the core of his practice using paper yarns, steel mixes to create interactive three-dimensional textiles.
Fox ongoing practice is interested in our collective and individual memory and experience with textiles. Our Textile Heritage and Archives are a source of inspiration, Fox aims to make the public think about collections and the past through public spaces or even bringing his textiles into there homes. Currently inspired by Sunny Bank Mills and their Museum and Archive, he looks at the past workers who once were apart of a bustling weaving mill which produced fine worsted cloth. Fox believes that in order to move forward for a sustainable future, we can look back at our heritage. Our textile heritage should be at the forefront of how we produce and think today.
Whilst creating woven textiles, he also creates contemporary craft based fine art, which explores same themes, ideas and narratives.
