BA IN Textile Design Degree Show 2024

This body of work is inspired by Sunny Bank Mills and their Museum and Archive. Based outside of Leeds and stopped production in 2008 of woven textiles for suiting. Now the mill is a place for arts, culture and heritage with a gallery, archive and creatives working on site. The 20 piece woven collection is split into two. One being 3D architectural textiles that self folds playing around with light and space. Whilst the other is a commercial range for light, both engage the user/public with heritage through cloth. Visual Studies support the woven collection from handmade tools, fine art woven forms and warp chains linking to the workers of the mill.

This final collection was reexhibited at Sunny Bank Mills in the Weaving Shed 2024. This was to explore and show the work institute of the site that had inspired the work. The University invited the work back for School of Design 150 Years: A Thread Through Time Exhibition in 2024. This highlighted work and future work from students over the 150 years of the School of Design.
